Painting Process

NORTHSTAR uses state-of-the-art, automated, paint systems to reduce paint flaws and ensure long term corrosion protection.

Even though the NORTHSTAR design is modular and employs field assembly the tower is still roll formed and painted very much like today’s tubular towers, only on a modular scale. Once installed, the NORTHSTAR tower is very similar from a visual point of view to a conventional tubular tower.
The modularity of the design and relatively smaller size of individual components enables a paint system that utilizes state-of-the-art, in-line, automated material preparation and paint application system.

Today’s towers are for the most part prepped and painted manually. This method introduces variables in the application process that can result in sub-standard or unacceptable performance of the protective coatings system.

NORTHSTAR’s automated in-line paint system will, in a more reliable manner, ensure that every part is provided with a superior and uniform paint application that is not operator dependent.

By adhering to the paint specifications established by the individual Turbine Manufacturers, the NORTHSTAR tower will look and perform as well and in many instances better than today’s alternative.

Modular panels can be efficiently painted in an automated line. This results in decreased application and cure times as well as providing better quality material preparation (blasting) and control of paint application.

This is not an available option for the very large tubular towers of today, resulting in various paint defects.
